FiFi Event

NEWS FLASH – B29 FIFI Showcase Days – AM on 40 meters Oct. 6-8

On the weekend of Belton Hamvention, the Ground Demo Station for FIFI – one of the only two flying B-29 bombers – will spring into action on 40 meters on 7295 KHz *. If propagation is poor on 40 meters they will also try 20 meters on 14.286 MHz. Ground operations will be conducted on Friday October 6th, Saturday, October 7th & Sunday, Oct. 8th from 9 AM to 5 PM (Maybe 4 PM on Sunday) Central Daylight Time. This operation is part of the Wings Over Dallas Air Show at the Dallas Executive Airport.

The Ground Demo Station call will be KM4RC – the same call sign that FIFI uses when they operate her airborne on long tour flights.

The equipment will be exactly the same as is installed in the restored FIFI radio position. This includes a Collins ART-13 transmitter with Dynamotor and the BC-348 receiver. This event has public aircraft ground tours and some demo flights with passengers. This preclude the radio position coming on the air – hence the ground demo station for visitors and QSOs.

Chief Ops on Friday are Paul Veenstra, KC0TEG and Loney Duncan, W0GZV. Saturday’s operators will be WA5FWC, Gary Pannell & Paul Veenstra. Then Loney Duncan, W0GZV will again be Chief Op on Sunday with Grant Laughlin, W5XJ also operating and helping.

* This Frequency was chosen to keep operations in the General area of the band to allow more people to work the FIFI station. Note that it is different than the original announced frequency.

Come have some fun on AM with FIFI.
